Rules / Skills / Perform

Perform

You're skilled at a form of performance, using your talent to impress a crowd or make a living.

Basic competence. Some performances demand more than charisma. If you don't meet the demands of the art form or the audience, the GM may apply a penalty from the relevant ability: dancing with a negative Reflex, say, or orating with a negative Intellect (hope your raw Charisma carries you, or get someone to write your speeches).

Performance traits. An action using Perform gains traits that fit the kind of performance (the GM may change them): act or perform comedy — Auditory, Linguistic, Visual; dance — Move, Visual; play an instrument — Auditory, Manipulate; orate or sing — Auditory, Linguistic.

Actions

Perform (Concentrate)

You give a short performance: one song, a quick dance or a few jokes. It's most useful for proving your ability or impressing someone fast. A performance rarely does much by itself, but the GM may let it change the DCs of later Diplomacy checks against the audience, or even their attitudes. Some performances need more than charisma: if you don't meet the demands of the art or the audience (dancing with a low Reflex, or orating with a low Intellect, say), the GM may give you a penalty. Performances gain traits from their type: acting or comedy (Auditory, Linguistic, Visual), dance (Move, Visual), playing an instrument (Auditory, Manipulate), oratory or singing (Auditory, Linguistic).

Critical Success: Your performance impresses the audience, and they're likely to spread word of your talent.

Success: You prove your ability, and the audience appreciates the performance.

Failure: Your performance falls flat.
