Layered vermin shell and chitin, shaped into protective sections without needing fully forged metal plate.

Applicable items: Helmets, bracers, shields, armor panels, light armor, medium armor

Traits granted: Chitin Plate

Effects: While wearing or using the item, the user gains +1 on saves against being grabbed, pinned or crushed.

Scaling profile: Flat: +1 to the listed flat bonus each time the finished item enters a higher item-level band (5, 11, 17).

Crafting requirements: Tools appropriate to the base item, plus properly prepared chitin plates.

Crafting modifiers: +25% raw material cost; Craft DC +1.

Restrictions: Unsuitable for fine clothing, most heavy armor cores and items that rely on soft flexibility.

Magic items: The item keeps the Chitin Plate trait if it is later made Masterwork or enchanted.
